But for Taylor Patrick, what comes next?

The UH-Hilo sophomore golfer felt the sting of an 80 and the sizzling sensation of a 69 all on the same day at the Western Washington Invitational.

When all was said and done Monday, Patrick was 5-over after two rounds and tied for 36th in Bellingham, Wash.

His 80 in his first round was his highest score as a collegian – Patrick was third-team all-Pacific West Conference last season – but the Canada native followed that up with his lowest, and the 3-under equaled the third-lowest round of the day among the field of 93 players on a cool, drizzly day in the Pacific Northwest.

Teammates Jared Kinoshita (74-76–150) and Ryan Roodzant (73-77–150) were a little more consistent – without the sizzle – and a stroke behind.

The Vulcans were 12th out of 16 teams heading into Tuesday’s final round at 24-over 600, which was 24 shots behind the leaders, Canada’s Simon Fraser and British Columbia.

Simon Fraser’s Chris Crisologo was one of the few golfers to better Patrick’s second round, shooting a 67 en route to a two-shot lead at 6-under 138.

UH-Hilo freshman Evan Merrier shot a 73 in the second round to get down to 10-over 154, Trevor Kua combined a 78 with a 79 and Kamehameha graduate Preston Lee Ching, golfing as an individual, carded consecutive 80s.
